Major rail project for North-East Victoria: from 9 November 2008 - until further notice

Date Published: Wednesday 10 December 2008

From 9 November 2008, coaches will replace train services between Albury / Wodonga and Seymour due to major upgrades in North-East Victoria.

V/Line services will become more reliable with major plans to upgrade 200km of track between Melbourne and Albury/Wodonga.

The upgrades include the construction of the Wodonga Rail Bypass and the implementation of improved V/Locity trains and stations to be able to function in conjunction with the upgraded tracks.

A mix of express coaches will run between Albury / Wodonga and Seymour, and coaches that will stop at all stations to Chiltern, Springhurst, Wangaratta, Benalla, Violet Town, Euroa and Avenel.

New platforms will be built at Broadmeadows, Seymour, Albury, Avenel, Euroa and Chiltern stations.

Due to the mixture of coach and train services V/Line cannot offer checked luggage on services during the upgrade works. Customers are advised to pack luggage they can carry easily.

Bicycles will not be permitted on board coaches during the works and people travelling with mobility aids (including wheelchairs) are encouraged to call V/Line at least 24 hours in advance to reserve their space. Not all coaches can accommodate wheelchair passengers and alternative travel arrangements may need to be organised.

The upgrades are likely to be completed in 2010.

The Albury - Melbourne timetable effective from Sunday 9 November is available in timetables and Journey Planner.
