Metcard and myki changes: effective Sunday, 1 January 2012

Metcard changes

The Yearly Metcard will no longer be available to buy and all Metcard sales through the Metlink website and Metcard helpline will cease from Sunday, 1 January 2012.

This is the first step of a phased process that will see Metcards gradually withdrawn from sale over the coming months.

Although the Metcard system will continue to operate until December 2012, it is important you start to use up any old Metcards now.

Public transport users across Melbourne are currently holding on to Metcards which total around 11 million unused trips.

If you want to continue buying public transport tickets online make the switch to myki.

For information on buying public transport tickets online visit myki.com.au (link opens in a new window) or click on the button below:

myki changes

myki card fees have been reduced and the $9.80 myki refund and replacement fee will be abolished from Sunday, 1 January 2012.

A full fare myki will now cost $6, reduced from $10, and a concession myki (general concession, senior or child) will cost $3, reduced from $7. The new fee will be available from 1 January.

These changes have been made to make it cheaper and easier for you to access public transport using myki.
