If you thought your Metcard could only get you on a train, tram or bus, think again!

There are Metcard deals to save you money on entertainment and activities around Melbourne.

Some of the exciting Metcard deals and offers currently available include:

The Hi-Fi

Music fans armed with Metcards can save money on tickets to some of the hottest gigs in town at The Hi-Fi.

The first two punters who arrive with a valid Metcard will receive a 50 per cent refund on the price of their gig ticket under the deal.

The Metcard must be valid on the day of the performance at The Hi-Fi.

Simply present your Metcard at the door when you buy or pick up your tickets to receive half your event ticket cost back in cash.

All events at the The Hi-Fi are over 18, unless otherwise explicitly stated.

The Hi-Fi is located opposite the Melbourne Town Hall at 125 Swanston Street, between Collins and Little Collins streets.

Tram routes 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 16, 64, 67 and 72 travel along Swanston Street and can drop you off at the Hi-Fi door.

Cricket Victoria

A cricket fan’s best friend will be a Metcard this summer at the MCG. Not only will it get you to the MCG, it will also cover your entry fee.

To enjoy free entry to the Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield and Ford Ranger Cup games simply show a valid Metcard at the MCG gates.

Use the journey planner to find the best route to the MCG. Simply select ‘landmark’ as your destination and type in ‘Melbourne Cricket Ground’ for a step-by-step trip plan from anywhere in Victoria.

Alternatively, the following services will get you there:

Metropolitan trains

 

Jolimont and Richmond stations are just a short walk to the ground.

Metropolitan trams

 

Catch tram routes 48 or 75 to Stop 11 outside the MCG or Route 70 to Stop 7B or 7C, which travels along Swan Street and leaves you within walking distance to the ground across the footbridge.

Metropolitan buses

 

Bus Route 246 (Elsternwick - La Trobe University) travels along Punt Road and can also drop you just a short walk from the ground. Bus route 605 (City - Gardenvale) stops at the corner of Punt Road and Swan Street. From this location, it is approximately a 500 metre walk to the MCG.

  • Victoria v Western Australia, 15-18 December 2008
  • Victoria v South Australia, 30 January-2 February 2009
  • Victoria v New South Wales, 15-18 February 2009
  • Victoria v Queensland, 5-8 March 2009

The following Ford Ranger Cup matches will be played at the MCG:

  • Victoria v Tasmania, 12 November 2008
  • Victoria v Western Australia, 20 December 2008
  • Victoria v South Australia, 4 February 2009
  • Victoria v Queensland, 11 February 2009
  • Victoria v New South Wales, 13 February 2009

Rooftop Cinema

What better way to spend a balmy summer night than reclining on one of the Rooftop’s comfy deck chairs watching a movie classic.

This season at the Rooftop Cinema, you can get in at the concession price ($15) every Tuesday simply by presenting a valid Metcard.

Rooftop Cinema is located on top of Curtin House at 252 Swanston Street, Melbourne City, between Little Bourke and Lonsdale streets.

Public transport can give you a lift to the Rooftop Cinema door. Hop on any tram on Swanston Street or take a short stroll from Melbourne Central Station.
