What has changed for 2009?

  • A new state-wide Victorian Student Pass. This pass is valid for travel on metropolitan trains, trams and buses, V/Line trains, V/Line coaches, and buses in more than 30 regional cities including Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo.

This is a significant improvement on the current student pass and allows you to travel throughout the state using one ticket.

In regional areas, simply show staff your pass on request.

As the Victorian Student Pass allows access to public transport services outside normal travel to and from school (school holidays, weekends and public holidays), it can not be used to claim the Department of Education conveyance allowance.

  • An increase in the child concession age. You now need a valid concession card to buy concession fares when you turn 17. Previously, this was when you turned 15.
  • From 1 January 2009, cheques will not be accepted at Connex Premium Stations. After 31 March 2009, cheques will not be accepted at the MetShop, V/Line staffed stations or V/Line ticket agents.

Who needs a concession card?

Students aged 17 years and over need a Victorian Public Transport (VPT) Student Concession Card to buy concession fares.
